James Bond 007 is a fictional character created in 1952 by writer Ian Fleming, who featured him in 12 novels and two anthologies. The character has also been used in the longest running and 2nd most successful film franchise to date, starting in 1962 with Dr. No. There have been 21 films in the EON Productions series to date, with the 22nd, Quantum of Solace', due for release in November 2008. In addition there have been two independent feature productions (a 1967 spoof version of Casino Royale starring David Niven in the title role, and 1983's Never Say Never Again) and one Fleming-licenced American television adaptation of the first novel, aired in 1954. In 1956, Moonraker was also adapted into a South African radio play starring Bob Holness as Bond. By the year 1990 You Only Live Twice was adapted into a 90 minute radio play for BBC Radio 4 with Michael Jayston playing James Bond

After Fleming's death in 1964, subsequent James Bond novels were written by Kingsley Amis (as Robert Markham), John Pearson, John Gardner and Raymond Benson. In addition Charlie Higson has begun to write a series of books detailing the "Young James Bond". In July 2007, it was announced that Sebastian Faulks has been commissioned to write a Bond novel for publication in 2008. Moreover, Christopher Wood novelised two screenplays, while other writers have authored unofficial versions of the character.

In 2008, BBC Radio 4 was granted the rights for a one-shot broadcast of a radio adaptation of another 007 novel: Dr. No, with Toby Stephens (who portrayed the villain in Die Another Day) as James Bond. The EON Productions films are generally termed as "official" films originating with the purchase of the James Bond film rights by producer Harry Saltzman in the late 1950s.

Away from movies, TV and radio, Bond has also been adapted for many other media, including comic strips and video games.

It's the summer of 1977, New York City. A vicious killer is
roaming the streets naming himself Son Of Sam.

He sneaks up to men and women with his gun and shoots them. When
he's arrested he tells the police that he had listened to the
voice of Sam, his neighbour's dog, and that he was influenced by
a satanic cult. Before his sentencing he requests a catholic
priest to come to his cell to convert him from Judaism to
becoming a devout Christian. The real name of the killer is David
Berkowitz, who is currently serving life in prison without the
possibility of parole.

King Arthur is on a search for knights to join his round table. He finds Sir Bedevere, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Galahad the Pure, Sir Robin the not-quite-so-brave-as-Sir-Lancelot and the aptly named Sir Not-appearing-in-this-film. God comes down and tells them they must search for the Holy Grail. They first look at a castle which had French guards that taunt them. After that they spilt up and the movie tells each tale of the knight. Sir Robin goes into a forest with his minstrels, when they come to a three-headed person. Sir Robin runs away. Sir Galahad sees the Holy Grail in a light above the Castle Anthrax. He goes inside and there is a whole bunch of school girls. Just as he was about to fall to temptation, Sir Lancelot comes in and rescues him from great peril. King Arthur and Sir Bedevere come upon the Knights Why Say 'Ni'. The knights ask for a shubbery, and Arthur and Bedevere go and get it. They come back and then Sir Robin shows up. Sir Lancelot goes to the Swamp Castle where he thought he was rescuing a girl who is really a guy from a wedding party. The Knights all meet up and go off to find Tim the Enchanter. Tim the Enchanter takes them to a cave where there is a killer rabbit. They defeat the rabbit with a Holy Hand Grenade. They go into the cave and read the last words of Joesph of Arimathea which tells them to go the Castle Aaaaaagggh. They are chased by a monster who dies. Then they go to the Bridge of Death. The old man from 'Scene 24' tells them they have to answer three questions to get to the other side.

Hazel Stone, who is just starting her junior year in high school, is desperate to make new friends. Two young "hippie" bikers, Wyatt and Billy sell some dope in Southern California, stash their money away in their gas-tank and set off for a trip across America, on their own personal odyssey looking for a way to lead their lives. On the journey they encounter bigotry and hatred from small-town communities who despise and fear their non-conformism. However Wyatt and Billy also discover people attempting 'alternative lifestyles' who are resisting this narrow-mindedness, there is always a question mark over the future survival of these drop-out groups. The gentle hippie community who thank God for 'a place to stand' are living their own unreal dream. The rancher they encounter and his Mexican wife are hard-pushed to make ends meet. Even LSD turns sour when the trip is a bad one. Death comes to seem the only freedom. When they arrive at a diner in a small town, they are insulted by the local rednecks as weirdo degenerates. They are arrested on some minor pretext by the local sheriff and thrown in jail where they meet George Hanson, a liberal alcoholic lawyer. He gets them out and decides to join them on their trip to New Orleans in time for Mardi Gras.

Jack Nicholson stars as Poet a down and out gas station attendant who is able to make his way into the local chapter of the San Franciscan Hell's Angels (a couple of years before they wreaked havoc at Altamont), which are led by Buddy (Adam Roarke). Poet also becomes attracted to Buddy's flaky, promiscuous girlfriend, Shill (future California state senator Sabrina Scharf), but a relationship can only lead to trouble. Poet is tough and he fits right in, but he is a bit more morally conscious than the other Angels and seems to want to go on to better things even though his life is going absolutely nowhere.
